History
Founded in 1888 in Basel, Metzger became one of Switzerland’s largest shirt manufacturers, supplying private clients, institutions and even the Swiss Army.
At a time when minds such as Hermann Hesse, C. G. Jung, Meret Oppenheim and Jean Tinguely shaped the city, Metzger was thriving as Basel’s renowned shirt maker - likely dressing some of them.
Production ended in the 1990s. The legacy continues.

Philosophy
Wear the moment.
We create premium essentials for men and selected items for women. Swiss design. Italian fabrics. Portuguese craftsmanship.
For us, sustainability means durability. Fewer pieces. Better materials. Made to last.
In a market where “premium” is often overstated, we return to what it should mean: best fabrics, best in class finishing and high integrity.
Team
Maison Metzger was not revived by a cold business plan, but by a circle of fashion-minded friends and shirt enthusiasts who felt something was off: quality declining, prices rising, and in Basel - once a textile stronghold - hardly any comparable makers left.
What started as conversation became mission. A promise to the Metzger legacy - and also in memory of a late family member who believed the house should endure.
Today, the brand is independently run in Basel, restoring a name once known for Swiss shirt craftsmanship at its best.
